Key Responsibilities
- β’**Market Abuse Monitoring (MiCA Article 92)**
- β’Monitor trading activity, orders, transactions, and communications for indicators of:
- β’Insider dealing
- β’Market manipulation (wash trading, spoofing, layering, pump-and-dump)
- β’Dissemination of misleading information
- β’Review alerts generated by surveillance tools and risk-based scenarios.
- β’Apply prioritisation based on asset liquidity, volatility, user profile, and market context.
- β’**Analysis & Investigation**
- β’Perform detailed analysis of flagged activity using order-book dynamics, transaction sequencing, and behavioural patterns.
- β’Assess whether behaviour constitutes actual or attempted market abuse under MiCA.
- β’Distinguish legitimate trading strategies from abusive conduct.
- β’Produce clear, auditable investigation narratives with evidence and conclusions.
- β’**Escalation & Regulatory Reporting**
- β’Escalate suspected market abuse to Senior Compliance / MLRO in line with procedures.
- β’Support preparation of notifications to the National Competent Authority (NCA) where required.
- β’Maintain complete records of alerts, investigations, escalations, and outcomes.
- β’**Surveillance Framework & Control Effectiveness**
- β’Support calibration and tuning of market abuse detection rules and thresholds.
- β’Participate in periodic effectiveness reviews (false positives, missed scenarios).
- β’Track emerging crypto-specific abuse typologies (cross-venue manipulation, listing abuse, oracle manipulation).
- β’Contribute to continuous improvement of surveillance frameworks.
- β’**Regulatory Compliance & Governance**
- β’Ensure activities comply with:
- β’MiCA Article 92
- β’MiCA delegated acts and ESMA guidance
- β’Internal market abuse policies
- β’Support audits, supervisory requests, and regulatory reviews.
- β’Provide structured documentation to regulators on request.
- β’**Cross-Functional Cooperation & Awareness**
- β’Cooperate with Compliance, Risk, Product, Listings, and Operations teams.
- β’Provide market abuse input into token listings and product launches.
- β’Stay current on regulatory developments and emerging abuse risks.
- β’Promote a culture of market integrity and early escalation.
Requirements
Must-Haves
- β’3β7+ years in market abuse, surveillance, or financial crime monitoring.
- β’Experience in regulated trading, crypto, or financial markets.
- β’Hands-on investigation and documentation experience.
- β’Familiarity with EU market abuse concepts (MAR / MiCA).
- β’Strong analytical and written communication skills.
Nice-to-Haves
- β’ICA / ACAMS certification.
- β’Crypto exchange or trading venue experience.
- β’Experience with surveillance tools and data analysis.
