Responsibilities
- โขManage billing infrastructure and subscription model:
- โขOwn the full billing cycle โ from checkout to recurring charges and handling declines
- โขDesign retry logic: intervals, amounts, routing by decline codes
- โขManage multi-PSP architecture โ build logic for switching between providers
- โขDevelop payment integrations โ Apple Pay, MPAN, network tokens, account updater, etc.
- โขAnalyze data and optimize monetization metrics:
- โขTrack and improve Authorization Rate (CIT/MIT), Recovery Rate, Chargeback Ratio by banks, countries, and payment methods
- โขIdentify loss points โ which decline codes dominate, where retry does not work, where revenue is missed
- โขFormulate and test hypotheses for improving billing logic, measure the financial impact of each change
- โขMaintain regular reporting on payment metrics with alerts for deviations
- โขDevelop and implement billing strategy:
- โขDesign subscription flow โ trials, subscriptions, upsells, reactivations, offers on payment declines
- โขLaunch A/B tests on billing parameters โ timing of charges, amounts, sequence of offers
- โขCollaborate with marketing and product to develop retention mechanics and grow LTV
- โขProvide operational support for billing:
- โขMonitor VAMP ratio, fraud and chargeback rate โ take action before reaching penalty thresholds of Visa and Mastercard
- โขCommunicate with PSP (Adyen, Stripe, etc) โ features, compliance requests, escalations
- โขPrepare transactional reports for accounting as needed.
Conditions
- โขExcellent if:
- โขExperience in subscription business with high volume recurring payments
- โขWorked directly with Adyen or Stripe at the product level
- โขHave solved issues related to reducing chargeback rate or improving Authorization Rate โ have specific cases with measurable results.
Requirements
- โขDeep understanding of the payment ecosystem โ know how CIT/MIT transactions work, understand decline codes and their reasons, familiar with PSP operations (Adyen, Stripe, etc.), knowledgeable about Visa and Mastercard payment scheme rules
- โขAbility to work with data independently โ can take a raw transactional dataset, find information/problems, formulate hypotheses, and drive to results (SQL or Python at a level sufficient to not depend on an analyst for basic questions)
- โขProduct mindset with a focus on revenue โ think in terms of revenue and losses, not just tasks and features
- โขIndependence in decision-making โ initiate and propose solutions and drive to results without constant approval
- โขExperience communicating between technical and non-technical teams.
